Discolored Head

If your birds have an unnatural blue or dark coloring on their head, chances are it's pretty serious.  It may be one of these first two very serious and fatal diseases:

  • Fowl Cholera - Were your birds fine yesterday, but dead today?
  • Avian Influenza - Is their head blue or purple and have respiratory distress and facial swelling? Note: This is a serious and reportable disease that is highly contagious.
  • Chronic Respiratory Disease/Mycoplasma Gallicepticum - If the head more dark than colored?  Do your chickens seem unable to shake minor respiratory issues, but never seem to get any better or worse?  Is the spread in your flock very slow?
